Hats of the Royal Wedding

So it's all over. The Royal Wedding has come and gone. I thought the whole affair was lovely. Kate looked gorgeous, and Wills looked rather dashing as well. A wedding for such a lovely couple deserves equally lovely guests. And those Brits sure do know how to deliver. They seem to have a hat for every fancy occasion, and they brought out all the stops for this one. Here's a little looksie at the good, the bad, and the downright uuugly!

I thought this color combo was rather chic. This is one of the only hats I actually liked

3 interesting choices... The black spider-esque one in the middle is probably my favorite

Victoria's hat is interesting. Not sure why she's wearing it on her forehead. Truth be told the real reason I included this pic is because David is a total fox.

This is where things start getting a little sketchy...

Sproingy feathers, yellow teeth, and red lipstick. Lethal combo

A pictures worth a thousand words, so I'm not even going to say anything

This is one fancy lady. Her hat isn't even bad, I think it's her voluminous hair underneath that's throwing me off.

 Oh Camilla...

And now for the ridiculous

I literally laughed out loud when I saw this. Can you say horse face? Alright, that was mean. It really does conjure images of the 2 ugly stepsisters from Disney's Cinderella though.. I am an awful person lol

If I wasn't completely sold on wearing hats before, I am now.

Kid in a Candy Store

Anthropologie is one of my favorite websites to frequent. Not that I have the money to buy anything. $300 for a dress, no matter how gorgeous, is a little out of my budget at this point. Regardless, I will always be a faithful Anthro follower. Their new look book, Everyday Occasions is nothing short of lovely. The idea of dressing up the day to day is one that I love. Completely unpractical when I'm surrounded by cake and icing all day. But if I could, I would spend my days in swingy dresses and flowy tops, and not in jeans and t shirts. Here are a few of my favorite looks!

Beautiful, no?

Fit for a Queen

The Royal Wedding is just days away! It's been so hyped up here in Canada that's it's hard not to get a little excited. I think every girl dreams of being a princess at some point in her life, and Kate actually gets to be a real one. It's all a little fantastic. Kate is gorgeous and all, but my favorite princess is still the one and only Princess Diana. She epitomized grace and style. Here are a few of my favorite looks, as well as some modern day alternatives.

Lovely red and white polka dots

Only a princess could get away wearing such outlandish hats, and still look completely fabulous

Floral button up. Don't you just love her shoulder pads?

 Trench coats in pretty pastels

This is evidence that even princess's have lapses in judgement, and have "fashion don't" moments

Pip pip, cheerio! Happy Tuesday!

Sunday Sweets

Happy Easter! There's nothing like waking up to a clear blue sky, and an easter basket full of goodies. Having a extra long weekend has been absolutely. And tomorrow, all day shopping trip with my mom! All in all, a fabulous weekend. Work was a little hectic, so I didn't have a chance to stop and take too many pictures, but enjoy the ones I did manage to snag.

Nothing like a little Halo, with guns and grenades

A little froggy and bunny

A simple wedding cake

Ernie in the bathtub with his rubber ducky

Happy Easter!

Flushed

One of my favorite beauty products is blush. I have almost no natural rosiness to my cheeks, but I think nothing is prettier than a natural flush. I just think it does wonders to make your face look more pulled together and awake, which is never a bad thing. I have about 9 different blushes in my makeup bag at the moment, from powders to creams to stains and gels. One of the things that I have never tried is "smart" makeup. You know the ones, they go on clear, and claim to perfectly adjust to your skin tone for the perfect shade every time. I've been skeptical, but earlier this week my curiosity got the best of me, and I purchased Smashbox O-Glow. I've eyed it several times before, and tested it on my hand many times. Indeed, it went from a clear gel to a lovely shade of bright pink, so I figured I'd give it a try.

All in all I'm satisfied. My skin tone is on the darker side, so the pink isn't as vibrant as I had hoped, and it's not as long lasting as I'd like either. But when I layer a powder blush over top, it enhances the color and gives it a little more wear time. Not sure if it's worth the $30 price tag though. I'll use it all up, and then I'll continue my search for the perfect blush.
Hope you have a fabulous Easter weekend!

Bang On

I'm not the kind of person that is big fan of change. Especially when it comes to my hair. My hair has been long for years,  3/4 of the way down my back. And for the most part I love it. Sure I go threw a ton of hair products, and it takes 45 minutes to blow dry. But I really like being able to do so many things with it, because I have so much length to work with. But lately, I've been getting bored. I've changed the color up, and that hasn't satisfied my need for change. I think it might be time to take the plunge, and cut it. Nothing huge at first, I'm thinking maybe 4 inches. Which represents almost 8 months of growth, which why cutting it is so hard for me. Another idea that I've been toying with is bangs. I usually have long side swept bangs, but I grew them out about a year ago. I'm thinking more this time. Something similar to these styles...

I just love Olivia Wilde, and her new bangs are no exception

J Lo's bangs are also lovely. As is her lovely caramel blond color

I love that Nicole's bangs are a little more piecey and choppy than the others

I've always coveted after Reese's tresses, her hair always looks so polished and perfect

This is exactly what I DON'T want. Good on Rachel for pulling off the long, thick, blunt bangs, but they're a little extreme for me.

Every time I have myself convinced that I want to do something totally different, I second guess myself, and get scared. But it's just hair, it'll grow back, right?
Happy Good Friday!

Easter Dress

It was always a tradition in my family for my sister and I to get a new Sunday dress for Christmas and Easter. While Christmas is still a long way off, Easter is upon us, and I find myself without a new dress. It makes me sad, especially since the weather seems to have smartened up. My legs are just itching to get out of jeans and boots and into skirts and sandals. Regardless of my dressless status, here are a few of the dresses that I'll be coveting after this Easter Sunday.

This dress is so cute, I'm in love. Sunshine yellow, and eyelet detail. Two of my favorite things

I love the crocheted detail at the shoulders, that is also carried on to the back

A beautiful shade of grey, with ruffled detail

This dress might not look like much, but when it's on an actual body, with a skinny belt at the waist, it is absolutely gorg. I will be coveting after this for a long while

I have yet to delve into the world of maxi dresses. I think they're adorable, but I feel like I'm too short to wear them. When I do get brave enough, one similar to this floral cap sleeved number will be my first choice.

Hope you all have something fabulous to wear this Easter Sunday!

Mary had a Little Lamb

I just got done working 15 hours straight. I'm covered in frosting, my back is killing me, and my eyes are going blurry as we speak. But I can see the light at the tunnel, tomorrow is the last day of work for this week, we get an extra long weekend because of Easter, so that is helping improve my bitterness. I decorated 8 cakes in two hours, a new personal best for me. A record that I hope I never break. I decorated a super cute christening cake today, however I forgot to take a picture of it. I did take a picture of the cute little lamb I made to sit on top.

Very appropriate since Easter is right around the corner!

Nature's Broom

Breakfast is the one meal that I always neglect. I work early, and at 6:30 in the morning, eating a well rounded meal is the absolute last thing on my mind. But on days like today, when I don't have to work, and I have my parents pantry at my disposal, I decided to do a little breakfast baking.
There's a running joke at the shop that muffins are just ugly cupcakes. Ugly or not, muffins are one of my favorite breakfast foods. Unfortunately for me, it was my sister who inherited my dad's amazing metabolism. So the usual carb and sugar filled muffins don't do my waistline any good. Fortunately I found this fantastic recipe. Bran muffins have such a bad rep. This one is light and moist, and full of lovely things like honey, applesauce and figs. But it's a super versatile base, it's also delicious with dates, or dried apricots and cranberries. I plan on freezing them individually, so I'll always be prepared to eat the most important meal of the day!

Have a happy Monday!

Sunday Sweets

I've been lazy with the blogging these past couple days. Work has been insane. I didn't get done until 1am on Friday night, and I was right back at it at 7. We had 21 cakes for Saturday, 15 of which were for before noon. We were also down 2 staff members because they were holding down our booth at The Children's Festival which was going on this weekend. Absolute madness. And after having a few days of fairly pleasant weather, I woke up on Friday morning to this

Other than complaining, I don't have a whole lot to say on a dreary, snow filled Sunday morning. So hopefully a few of this weeks cakes will fill the void.

Bows, polka dots and stripes... My favorite combo

Monkeys jumping on the bed cake

This little monkey is my favorite. I couldn't resist giving at least one of them a pair of sweet little bunny slippers

Fun flowers, whipped up 15 minutes before closing

That's all for this week, with all that was going on, I forgot to take very many pictures. Have a fantastic Sunday!

Lash Blast

I am by no means a makeup artist. But I think it's safe to say we all have at least on product we can't live without. And if I was stranded on a dessert island, and could bring only one cosmetic with me, it would have to be mascara. I'm a lash girl. There's nothing I love more than long, voluminous lashes. As far as drugstore brands go, I can honestly say I've tried them all. I've tried the cult favorites, Diorshow, Lancome Oscillation, Givenchy Phenomen Eyes that has the round brush, been there, done that.
However, there is one mascara that I've never tried. The classic pink and green tube. Maybelline Great Lash. It's a classic. But for some reason my mother has a personal vendetta against this mascara. She hates it, and told me never to waste my money on it. But recently I found myself in a different city, without any mascara in my makeup bag, and nowhere to turn except a gas station, where the cosmetic to be found other than Carmex was Great Lash. I didn't have any other choice, so I bought some. It happened to be Great Lash Big, a new formula, with a bigger brush. I had my doubts, especially considering my extensive experience with other mascaras. But all I can say, is that I love it. Seriously. As far as volume goes, not the greatest. But if you're a fan of mile long lashes, and a stay put formula at a great price, this little beaut is for you!

I'd love to hear about your beauty must haves!

Birthday Wishes

It's Tuesday. Which means back to work for me. There's nothing like walking into work early Tuesday morning and seeing a wall already full of cake orders. This week is going to be another busy one. On a happier note, it's 11 days until my birthday. I'm the kind of person that really looks forward to birthdays, but this year I'm not sure how I feel. I'm turning 20. Which seems really old to me. It means I'm not a teenager. That I should be a responsible adult, and that I should have my life at least somewhat figured out. I am none of the above. Regardless of my trepidation's about the big 2-0, birthdays mean presents. Does that make me really selfish? It probably does. I can't help it though, I love presents more than most 5 year olds. So if your a member of my family, and especially if your my mum, pay really close attention. Here are a few things I've been coveting as of late.

Navy blue gingham jacket, perfect for spring

A set of disco dust's (edible glitter for cake decorating)

Kicker iPod speakers

A pair of super cute Toms

Adorable ruffled apron

I do accept gifts for people other than my relatives, so feel free to give generously...
Good grief, I'm a terrible person lol. I really don't need anything for my birthday, I'm perfectly happy with what I already have. But a girl can dream, right?
Happy Tuesday!

Sunday Sweets

Another busy week come and gone. I was lucky enough to get yesterday off, so I got to spend a chill day with my family. I also got to spend the evening watching movies with my little brother while my parents went and celebrate their 28th anniversary! I also had the opportunity to make a cake for a fundraiser in my hometown. They told me I could do whatever I wanted, so I jumped at a chance to recreate one of my favorite things found in fashion, and experiment with it in cake. Ruffles. I am a sucker for anything ruffled. I also chose of my favorite color combos that I rarely get to use, soft grey and golden yellow. I really like how it turned out, so let me know what you think!

I wish I had something more than my humble iPhone to take pictures with, it doesn't do justice to the colors or the details of the cake. Oh well. Here are a few others from this week.

Cute little owl

A loose interpretation of peacock feather for an 18th birthday

Fun flowers for a sweet little girls 5th birthday

Hope you enjoy what's left of the weekend, I know I will!
