March of the Penguins

With Christmas fast approaching, we're slowly getting more request for festive themed cakes. A lot of people want cakes that are Christmas-ish, without being full on, blatantly Christmas themed. So this year, my go to cake suggestion is a penguin cake! Super cute, fairly easy to decorate, and easy to dress up, or dress down, as you'll see.

This was my first penguin prototype, simple, and cute, topped off with a big bow

Then I got creative, dressing him up in his best Christmas wear.

Then things got fancy, with a flower headband, complete with feathers!

Hope you like them as much as I do!

Change in Location

So guess what? I'm in Hawaii! Nothing better than last minute vacations with the family! As much as I love cake and frosting, I love warm weather and spending time with my family more! It's gorgeous here, and I'm so excited to relax, and have some fun in the sun.
No matter where I travel to, I always try to scope out the local bakeries and cake shops, see how our little shop compares to all the others out there. I've been to Hawaii a bunch of times, and the cake shops here are reallllly lacking. See?

I'd be doing the islands a favor by relocating. It'd be a tough job, but someone's gotta do it!

I can't believe that November is already coming to an end! The weather in my nick of the woods can be super unpredictable. We've had blizzards in July, and spring weather in January. This year, our weather has been fairly normal, which is a welcome surprise. The weather is getting gradually colder though, and that means a good winter wardrobe is essential. And a lot of the time, it seems like you have to choose either fashion, or function. A clothes are either warm and ugly, or cute and flimsy. What's a girl to do? Never fear, I've found the quintessential winter look, that embodies both fashion and function! Feast your eyes on this.

All of my favorite things! Pink, leopard print, and faux fur! It doesn't get any better. So don't fret, this winter, you too can look fabulous, and stay nice and cozy!

Silly Old Bear

Happy Monday! Sorry for the lack of posting, my internet was down, alllll last week! It's amazing how much free time I had when Facebook and Pinterest weren't there to distract me! Even so, I'm so happy to have it back! Last week was super busy, with cakes and trying lots of new Christmas treats at the shop, so we have lots to catch up on! But first, I thought I'd share one of my favorite cakes from last week. I'm a sucker for Disney, and Winnie the Pooh will always have a special place in my heart. Apparently I'm not the only one, since this Pooh Bear cake was for a 17th birthday!

Hayley, the lucky birthday girl was pretty specific as far as how she wanted the cake decorated, but I used a little creative license when it came to the honey pot, which is probably my favorite part of the whole cake. What's a bear without his pot of honey?

Tis the Season

Christmas is fast approaching! I'm lucky this year, because Christmas is coming a little early for me. I mentioned a few days ago that our shop has the opportunity this year to donate a decorated Christmas tree to be auctioned off, with proceeds going to the hospital. For some reason, I was put in charge of making a lot of the decorations. So this week has been a frenzy of hot gluing and bow tying! I still have a lot of finishing touches to finish up, and an entire tree topper to make, but I thought I'd give you a sneak preview of some of the decorations! The theme of course, is cake and candy inspired, which was a blast to base decorations around. Our color palate wasn't the traditional red and green. Instead, we went with fun hot pinks and teal blues, with a health does of glitter!

We had to have cupcakes of course, so I decorated some cupcake sugar cookies!

Cupcakes not your thing? Well how about doughnuts? Very fitting, because our shop also makes doughnuts on Thursdays!

Colorful rock candy, tied with bows. It'll look beautiful and sparkly against the lights on the tree.

A little peak at our ruffled tree skirt, full of fun plaid, polka dots and plaid

Tomorrow is the big day, actually getting to decorate the tree! I'll admit that I'm nervous, my mom is the big tree decorator around here! I'll let you see how it goes!

Happy Monday! My favorite day of the week! Although I have to say, this whole daylight savings thing is throwing me off, especially in the sleeping in department. I was up at 7:30 this morning. On my day off. Just terrible. Anyway, today, I thought I'd let you see the finished Lego Star Wars cake! So much fun.

Complete with the Death Star, and the iconic Star Wars logo!

Sunday Sweets

Another busy week at the sweat shop. The wintery weather this week is making me anxious for Christmas, and Christmas holidays. I'll get a little taste of Christmas this week with a day off on Friday, and the chance to decorate a cupcake themed Christmas tree to benefit the Regional Hospital. I'll share more about that later this week, but for now, it's time for a cute cake! Baby shower cakes are always super fun, because nothing gets people more excited than a baby on the way! This one turned out super cute, I'm in love.

Twins are on the way! We went with a "two peas in a pod" theme, and in addition to the cake, we made some cupcake with matching icing colors, with little peas in pods on top

May the Force Be With You

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away....
I'm such a nerd! I will openly admit that I thoroughly enjoy Star Wars. That's why I was extra happy when I got to make some decorations for not only a Star Wars cake, but a Lego Star Wars cake! My little brother would be proud. I only got to make three of the characters, which sadly didn't include Chewbacca, but I think they turned out good nonetheless.

Happy Thursday!
