Technical Difficulties

It's been a whole week since I've posted! Normally I would chalk this one up to laziness, but for once that isn't the case. For whatever reason blogger wont let me login on my laptop! I have no idea why, and no idea how to fix it either. So here I am, at home on my parents laptop. I really wish I had a lot of exciting things to tell you about the past week, but I really don't. I did have my tea party though, which was so much fun. Here are a few of the highlights

The table all set and ready to go

Tea cup, complete with an after tea sucker

Petit fours, toped with a rose and a little edible sparkle

No tea party of mine is complete without cupcakes

My mom has a little collection of old hats, which she was nice enough to let us use. Come to think of it, I don't think I've posted a picture of myself yet. So this is me!

My gorgeous friend Katie, or "Mrs. Nesbit" as she's known at tea parties.
Justin, my poser of a little brother,  who would wear this top hat everyday if he could. He'll probably kill me for tell anyone this, but his tea party name is Mrs. Jenkins

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Tea Time

As I mentioned yesterday, I have some time off this coming week. The shop is going to be closed for 5 days for some kitchen renovations, which means I get a break! I wish I had some super exciting plans to go away, but I don't. However, I do have plans to have a tea party. I started having tea parties with my little brother Justin, and one of my best friends Katie when I was probably 9 or 10. Katie broke her arm, and there wasn't a lot she could do for fun, so we started having tea parties. Justin wasn't really invited, but he was my little brother that felt the need to be included in everything my friends and I were doing, so he became a regular as well. It's 10 years later, and our tea parties are still going strong. Now that I'm older, and a little wiser, tea parties are a little fancier than they used to be, and I'm having a blast planning this one. Here are a few of this tea parties inspirations!

Every tea party calls for a ladylike dress

And ladylike gloves of course. With bows no less
A perfectly pink polka dotted tea pot

Personalized tea cups, so unbelievably cute

Not only does this cake have a sweet dolman banner on top, but it's ruffled as well. Love
I sometimes find the cakes with super bright different colored layers a little unappealing. But this cake, with it's subdued pink layers is gorgeous

Stay tuned for some pictures from the tea party!

Sunday Sweets

Happy weekend everyone! I wasn't sure if I was going to survive this week, but I did. Next week I get a little bit of a vacation from work, which I'm super excited about. It's sunday afternoon and all I want to do is eat and have a nap, so I'll get to the good stuff! Here are a few of this weeks cakes!

This may be one of my all time favorite cakes that I've ever done. But when the lady came and picked it up, she didn't even say anything, which was a little disappointing. Getting to see peoples positive reactions is half the fun. But oh well, I love it!

The coloring of this picture is awful, the cake really wasn't glowing hot pink

Simpson themed cake, complete with Homer and doughnuts

What's that? A hippo laying down in the grass with a cupcake is a strange request for an 11th birthday? Ya, I think so too!

A wedding cake that didn't get picked up. So I spent an hour after work trying to track these people down, and ended up delivering it to their reception (free of charge, might I add), only to get yelled at because "the cake was supposed to be here 2 hours ago!" Some people...

A very bright, summery little wedding cake

That's all for this week! I'm off to enjoy dinner with my family!

Inspirations

When you hear the words "classic beauty" there are a few names that automatically come to mind. Audrey, who conjures images of simple, natural beauty, and clean lines. And Grace, who was the epitome of class and elegance. But I think one of the forgotten stars of days past, and one of my personal favorite icons is Brigitte Bardot. The hair! The eyes! Needless to say she's a little more of a bombshell than the afore mentioned ladies. For example...

Isn't she just gorgeous? She looks so effortless, with her hair perfectly tousled and a little messy. The cat eye is another one of her signatures, and something that I've been trying to perfect lately. It's proving a little tricky, especially at 7 in the morning when I'm really only half awake. Luckily, the lovely ladies over at The Beauty Mark made this little vlog that was super helpful!

These are a few of my favorite things...

I've been going, going, going since 7 this morning, and I'm officially pooped. Today included working, filling up with gas, twice (grrrr..) and teaching 7 little girls how to decorate cupcakes. Oh, and I'm getting a zit. Perfect. I'm feeling grungy and  uninspired, so I'll leave you with one of my favorite images of all time. Nothing better than yummy desserts, and gorgeous shoes, on the same table.

Happy Tuesday!

Sunday Sweets

Hooray for spring weather! We had 3 days of gorgeous weather. But of course, I was stuck inside working all day. And today is cloudy and blowing a hurricane, which is just typical. But even so, I'm not complaining. Another busy week at work is come and gone. Last week was the week or boring boy cakes, so this week was extra fun because we had several super girly cake orders that involved the words, "super sparkly" and "as much pink as possible". Music to my ears. Here are a few of this weeks favorites.

A fun pink, sparkly high heel for a 16th birthday

Fun little owl cake for a baby shower.

We usually have a "castle cake" rule, but we made an excepting for a special little girl

Ribbon roses are a fun touch for yet another baby shower cake

Stormtrooper helmet for a young Star Wars fan.

May the force be with you!

Goo Goo Gaga

There are some things that refuse to be ignored. Bills, pimples, and mothers are some. Lady Gaga is another. She's a music and pop culture icon. And she matches to the beat of her own drum, whether it be where her music is concerned, or her choice in clothing. She is known for her outrageous fashion choices. Wigs, face paint and outlandish hats are all well and good for Gaga, but they don't really translate well for the rest of us that live normal day to day lives. While my taste is on the opposite end of the spectrum, it is possible to draw inspiration from some of the things she wears.

I love the bold pattern, and the splash of hot pink

A little white dress is perfect for those hot summer days that are on their way.

A floppy sunhat is another summer essential

I love this greyish purple nail color, neutral enough to match any outfit

The meat dress was just wrong, on every level. The only thing this look should evoke is hunger.

Feel free to embrace your inner Gaga, because you were born this way baby!

Prints Charming

As summer fast approaches, I've taken time to rearrange my closet, and swap out my winter cloths for warm weather apparel. I'm ditching my black, navy and grey, for fuchsia, orange and turquoise, and my solid colors for prints. Nothing says summer to me like colorful patterns in lightweight fabrics. There's something so festive and fun about a bright colored plaid, or a punchy floral print. Here's a little printed summer inspiration.

It's hard to tell in the picture, but this blouse has little lemons printed all over it. Lemonade anyone?

Usually I just feel sloppy whenever I'm wearing any kind of sweatshirt. But this draped polka dotted number still looks polished

This deep coral color is probably my favorite for the summer

I love a lace up sandal, especially in this red and white printed fabric

 Gorgeous hand painted bangle

Not only is this a scarf, but it also has several strands of beads. 2 accessories in one!

The list wouldn't be complete without a cake. This is such a fun color palate for summer, and the damask-esque piped detail is just lovely

Confessions

My name is Sasha, and I'm addicted to all things sweet. I blame it partly on my profession, but it's mostly due to my enormous sweet tooth. I've learned to control my addiction, by not bringing leftover cupcakes home, and not buying any kind of junk food at the grocery store. If it's not in the house, I can't eat it. This system works really well. Except for when I go home to visit my family. Which is two or three times a week. Let me just tell you, my Dad's walk in closet is not for keeping clothes, it's for stashing candy. It's got all the essentials, Hershey's milk chocolate bars with almonds, Milk Duds, licorice and M&M's. My personal favorite at the moment, Hershey Kisses with macadamia nuts. A little taste of heaven. It's not like a eat them by the handful, I'll snag a few here and there. But I realized that I had a real problem today when I went to style my hair. I was just doing my thing, teasing my hair a little, when lo and behold, what do I find tangled into bottom layers of my hair? A Hershey Kiss wrapper. In. My. Hair. And I thought to myself, this is absolutely ridiculous. So from now on, no more sugar for me. No more sneaking candy, and no more cupcakes at work. We'll see how long I can stay strong. Wish me luck!

P.S. Mom and Dad, if you're reading this, it wasn't me that left the Hershey Kisses wrappers all over the house. That was Justin, I swear.
