Black and White

I'm so excited about today's post! This fall I had the chance to make a wedding cake for one of my really good friends from high school. I've know Chanse, the groom since kindergarten, and he will always have a special place in my heart (he was my first kiss! lol) and his wife Kinzee is a total sweetheart. I was super excited when I heard they were tying the knot, and even more so when they approached me about making their cake! Especially when I heard what they had in mind. Black and white is one of my favorite color combinations for a wedding, it's so classy and elegant. Deep eggplant purple and bright green add a pop of color and lend a little fun. Damask was their pattern of choice, and that was basically my only guideline for the cake. I think it's my favorite cake to date!

Not to toot my own horn, but I love it!

I made the ruffled flower, with little green leaves the only pop of color on the cake. You can't really tell from the picture, but the flower is liberally dusted with edible sparkle

The happy couple cutting the cake! Don't they look fantastic together?

This is when I extra-specially love my job. Making cake for strangers, and seeing their excitement is def rewarding. But making cake for friends, especially a couple as sweet as this one, on one of the most important days they'll share together makes me warm and fuzzy inside. There's nothing more fulfilling.

Mouse House

Please excuse me long absence! The holidays are always a crazy busy time, this year even more so since I lost two weeks of prep time while on vacation. Totally worth it though! And I managed to get all of my Christmas stuff done before the big day, and had an amazing time with my family. I hope Santa found you, and was as good to you as he was to me!
The past few weeks was jammed packed with all kinds of cakes, so I have lots to share! Sadly, this little cake never made it home. The people who ordered it never came to pick it up. So rude! I think it turned out super cute nonetheless. I had creative freedom, the only direction I was given was "Minnie Mouse themed". Music to my ears, since polka dots and bows are my two favorite things!

Poor little La Daya Nj (quite the name for a one year old huh?) will never get to enjoy a pice of polka dot heaven.

Soups On!

It's that time again. First it was a gravy packet, then there was a burger and fries. Now it's time for something warm and comforting. Hot soup! Ichiban to be exact. I'll admit that I've never actually eaten Ichiban. And up until I googled a picture of the package of soup, I thought it was called Ichiband, with a D on the end. Nonetheless, it was super fun to make. After cute and sparkly cakes, food cakes are my favorite to decorate. Here's how it turned out!

Perfect for a cold night like tonight! And it contains a full weeks worth of sodium! Good deal, right?
