Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward
  • The fact that one of my co workers put the chocolate icing lid on my chair without me knowing, and me sitting on it. And having chocolate icing smeared alllll over my bum for the rest of the day.
  • The message that some lady left on out answering machine on Monday, one of the two days we aren't open. "Will someone PLEASE pick up the phone?!" Pause. "This isn't very good business sense you know. I'm trying to order a cake and you people wont even pick up the phone. You're running a business here. I'll call back in 10 minutes, and someone had better pick up this phone!" Easy lady. It says very clearly in our answering machine message that we're closed Sundays and Mondays.
  • Having to deal with this same lady when she comes into the shop on Tuesday afternoon to order a cake. She was not a happy camper when I told her we were all booked for Saturday. Should've pre ordered!
  • The state of obscurity that my closet is in. Must. Clean. Soon.
Awesome
  • The weather here has finally warmed up! Granted, it also came with gale force winds, but I'll take what I can get.
  • Stella and Dot party tomorrow. Having to host it at my house is awkward, however getting major discounts on gorgeous jewelry is the definition of awesome.
  • The stack of new magazines on my nightstand, just waiting to be looked at.
  • My new Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask. Hydrated, shiny hair, here I come!

Addicted

There is a fine line between liking to shop, and being addicted. I think I've crossed that fine line. There is two kinds of shopping, going to a store, and online. I find that actual "going to a store, and physically pulling out your credit card" shopping is the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately for me, and my bank account, I suffer from the latter. Online shopping is a trap. You can sit in the comfort of your own home, click a few buttons, and after a few days shiny, new, beautiful things show up on your doorstep. It's not until the bank statement comes at the end of the month that you realize what you've done. So let's pretend that yesterday, when I went to Safeway, I was actually going to get groceries, and not a pre paid Visa, since spool72.com wouldn't accept my Global Payment card. I think this is what some people refer to as rock bottom.... I'm ashamed.
As ashamed as I may be, I'm super excited my purchases to arrive. I've had my eye on this stuff for while, so that makes buying it ok. Right? And it's my birthday end of April, so I wont be able to buy anything until after that... That's how I'm going to justify my exorbitant spending this month!

Floral boyfriend cardi. Surprisingly hard to come by, but worth the search.

I LOVE these flats. Love them.

Tangerine and steel grey are such a cute color combo for spring/ summer. Give me stripes and a big bow, and I'm sold.

Again, stripes and a bow. Need I say more?

Lovely additions to my spring wardrobe, if I do say so myself.

Cupcakery

Happy Monday! Nothing like waking up to snow when it's the end of March... NOT! I'm thoroughly sick of this weather, but apparently it's going to shape up as of tomorrow. I'm skeptical, but we'll see. Regardless if it's the weather that's getting you down, or the fact that's it's back to work this morning, here's a little something to brighten your day. Cupcakes! Cupcake paraphernalia to be exact. And let's just pretend that I didn't have to google how to spell that.

Such a sweet apron from Anthropology. If you're reading this mum, it would make a great birthday present.

Measuring cups! Also available in measuring spoons. Love.

I have a strange obsession with cake stands. I love the pale pink color and the scalloped edges.

I'm the proud owner of this cupcake charm from Tiffany. It's my favorite and is def my go-to jewelry piece.

Just a little something sweet. Super cute right?

Sunday Sweets

Sunday's really are sweet. No work, uplifting church meetings, and chill time with the fam jam. It really doesn't get any better. It also occurred to me that Sunday would be a good day to share cakes that I've made during the week, in what shall be called "Sunday Sweets".
This week was craaaazy at the shop. A ton of cakes. Some people who order cakes have a very specific idea of what they want. Others give us total control and creative freedom. Both have their pros and cons, depending on the day and the amount of brain power I have. Here are a few of this weeks creations...

It's hard to go wrong with the classic combo of black and white, especially paired with a pop of punchy coral

There's nothing I love more than an oversized bow. Add some polka dots, and I'm sold.

I love zebra striped, I love hot pink. And I love tiara's. For little girl's cakes. For a 21st birthday? Not so much. But it's what they ordered, so ask, and ye shall receive.
That's all friends! Hope you're weekend has been lovely!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward
  • When I'm in the bathroom at work, and someone comes and reams on the door handle. Not only reams, but gives the door a shoulder in an attempt to get in. The door is locked, and I'm in here mmk? There is another bathroom 2 feet away for Pete's sake!
  • The lady that came into get cupcakes today that head a dead fly in her hair....
  • The fact that my Aunt and Uncle came into the shop today, and didn't recognize me. Granted they were my great Aunt and Uncle, but still. All those Christmases and Easters didn't have much of an impact. I'm completely forgettable apparently.
  • The lady that has come to get a dozen cupcakes. Every. Day. This. Week. That's not as much awkward as it is sad. I don't think she's been sharing them either.
Awesome

  • It's almost 8 at night, and it's not even completely dark. Spring!
  • The fact that almost everything at Gap is on sale right now. Fan. Tastic.
  • My Whippy Cake headbands that finally came in the mail yesterday. They almost guarantee that everday is going to be a decent hair day.
  • Only 2 more days, and 21 cakes to decorate, and then it's the weekend!

Pocketful of Sunshine

Happy Monday! I hear that Mondays are a total drag for most people, but for me, they are the best! Working Tuesday to Friday means that Monday is my day off, so pardon all my excited energy if you have a bad case of the the Monday gloomies. This is my final effort to be faithful to my blog. Recent events have led to more free time on my hands, so naturally I thought there was no better way to use said free time!

The weather in my nick of the woods is less than pleasant at the moment. We finally had a week of pleasant spring weather, only to be slapped in the face by snow this weekend. So in an attempt to brighten up this dreary Monday morning, I thought I'd share one of my favorite hues. Yellow!

Such a bright and cheery choice! I must say that the apron is a personal favorite of mine. Not only is it a gorg saffron color, but it also has ruffles. I have a feeling it's going to become a staple of mine at work. So don't be afraid to take a trip down the yellow brick road, and wear some yellow this spring!
