Something Old, Something New

There's something about Old Hollywood stars that I've always loved. Their glamor and sparkle of has always held a certain fabulousness that's intrigued me. Screen sirens of days past seemed to have a style and grace all their own that celebrities today lack. I live about as far away as you can get from Hollywood. But even so, I'd like nothing more than to get my own little piece of glamor. Here are a few classic beauties, with a modern twist.

Iconic Ray Bans updated, available in lots of fun colors

Swimsuit season is upon us, but these fun suits are both cute and modest

I love me a printed dress. Perfect for layering either over or under

Stripey dresses have a fun nautical feel perfect for the fast approaching summer

Printed tops with a slight mexican feel. Perfect for your next fiesta

Now go out there an embrace your inner movie star!

A Sad Sad Day...

Ever had one of those days where everything seems to go wrong? Well the past 24 hours seems to be that kind of day. Last night I decided to be productive, and clean out my closet. What do I get for trying to be productive? A broken toe, that's what! It's obviously the universe trying to tell me that I shouldn't be getting rid of any of my clothes.
I also got a package in the mail yesterday, an order filled with beautiful clothes that I purchased last week. Nothing I ordered looked good. Nothing. That's the risk you take when ordering over the internet, but still. I didn't expect everything to make me look like I'm six months pregnant, which I most certainly am not.
So in an attempt to brighten my day, and take my mind of my throbbing toe, here are some a few things that are on my radar, in a rainbow of cheery hues.

A beautiful shade of sky blue, with a few special details to make a basic T more interesting

Yellow is one of my favorite colors to wear, especially this deeper shade of saffron

I love this spring jacket, with its plaid lining and detachable hood. Especially in this bright cherry red, a color I'm seldom brave enough to wear

Magenta. Need I say more?
I am in love with these sky high wedges. So much easier to walk in than stilettos, and a perfect choice for summer
A little more practical than the wedges above, and equally as cute. Multi patterned gladiators with beaded detail... perfection

Happy Wednesday!

Hats Off!

There is so many different things that make up my wardrobe. I'm willing to admit that I'm addicted to cardigans, I have at least one in every color. I love scarves, and I have dozens of them. Jewelry is one of my weaknesses, especially necklaces. But there's one thing that I've never bee brave enough to delve into the world of, and that's hats. I've just never thought that I could pull them off. I have a baseball hat that I stole from my older brother, that I wear on really hot days when I mow the lawn, but other than that, I'm a total novice when it comes to headwear. But with spring here, and summer on it's way, and after perusing anthropologie.com, I find myself falling in love.
There are so many different styles and shapes out there for the taking, lots taking cues from different eras, and a more sophisticated time and place, which makes a hat a great accessory for adding extra spice to an otherwise simple outfit. They also seem like a great way for disguising 2nd, or 3rd, or maybe even 4th day hair. Not that I've ever gone that long without washing my hair...

I just love this little hat! So adorable. Give me a carpet bag and a talking parrot umbrella and I'd be set

A much more stylish approach to the floppy brim sunhat, in my opinion.

I am in love with this hat. Seriously. As Rachel Zoe would say, I Die. I don't know if it's the shape, or the floral ribbon that ties in a bow in the back, or the fact that it looks similar to something Audrey wore at one point in time. It must be a combination of the three. Regardless, it's been added to my birthday wish list.

The instant I saw this, I thought of Clark Griswold, and then I laughed out loud. I think turbans are fabulous, I just don't think I'll ever have a time or a place to wear one.

Have a great Tuesday!

Sunday Sweets

Another week come and gone. I can't believe April is already here! Along with a foot and a half of snow... But I promise that will be my last complaint about the weather. Work was insanely busy this week, not just with cakes, but with customers as well. I'm super excited to have a few days to recuperate before doing it all again this coming week. Here's a few of this weeks favorites!

Nothing like a giant pink cupcake. With a cherry on top of course!

This cake was for the nicest couple. The cake is for a couple's 40th wedding anniversary. They decided to take their whole family to Disneyland to celebrate!

Just a simple flowered birthday cake. Brown, blue and teal is one of my favorite color combos. The cake is also dusted with edible glitter, but unfortunately you can't seen in the pic.

This cake was for a Black and White Ball. I love scalloped edges, and of course, bows. I made a few red flowers for a pop of color, and dusted them with shimmery magenta.

This cake really isn't anything special, but I just love the little car!

April Showers

April showers? Pffffft. More like April snow storm! Ridiculous weather. But for a few hours last night, it was lightly raining while it was relatively warm, and it made me want to throw on my rain coat and galoshes, and play in the rain. Then I remembered that I don't have a rain coat, or galoshes. That was last night, and this is now. Behold, a plethora of fabulous rainy day finds.
THE most fabulous umbrella I've ever seen
Apparently practicality comes in a gorg shade of aqua blue

A bright and cheery addition to any grey day

I am obsessed with wellies. Sweet floral print with an adorable red buckle.

Not a rain coat, but a rain CAPE! So chic

LOVE this cami. Not only does it tote an adorable umbrella print, and ruffle front, there's also red zipper detail on the back. Must. Resist. Buying.

Hope your weekend weather is nothing but blue skies!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

Awkward
  • The fact that one of my co workers put the chocolate icing lid on my chair without me knowing, and me sitting on it. And having chocolate icing smeared alllll over my bum for the rest of the day.
  • The message that some lady left on out answering machine on Monday, one of the two days we aren't open. "Will someone PLEASE pick up the phone?!" Pause. "This isn't very good business sense you know. I'm trying to order a cake and you people wont even pick up the phone. You're running a business here. I'll call back in 10 minutes, and someone had better pick up this phone!" Easy lady. It says very clearly in our answering machine message that we're closed Sundays and Mondays.
  • Having to deal with this same lady when she comes into the shop on Tuesday afternoon to order a cake. She was not a happy camper when I told her we were all booked for Saturday. Should've pre ordered!
  • The state of obscurity that my closet is in. Must. Clean. Soon.
Awesome
  • The weather here has finally warmed up! Granted, it also came with gale force winds, but I'll take what I can get.
  • Stella and Dot party tomorrow. Having to host it at my house is awkward, however getting major discounts on gorgeous jewelry is the definition of awesome.
  • The stack of new magazines on my nightstand, just waiting to be looked at.
  • My new Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask. Hydrated, shiny hair, here I come!

Addicted

There is a fine line between liking to shop, and being addicted. I think I've crossed that fine line. There is two kinds of shopping, going to a store, and online. I find that actual "going to a store, and physically pulling out your credit card" shopping is the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately for me, and my bank account, I suffer from the latter. Online shopping is a trap. You can sit in the comfort of your own home, click a few buttons, and after a few days shiny, new, beautiful things show up on your doorstep. It's not until the bank statement comes at the end of the month that you realize what you've done. So let's pretend that yesterday, when I went to Safeway, I was actually going to get groceries, and not a pre paid Visa, since spool72.com wouldn't accept my Global Payment card. I think this is what some people refer to as rock bottom.... I'm ashamed.
As ashamed as I may be, I'm super excited my purchases to arrive. I've had my eye on this stuff for while, so that makes buying it ok. Right? And it's my birthday end of April, so I wont be able to buy anything until after that... That's how I'm going to justify my exorbitant spending this month!

Floral boyfriend cardi. Surprisingly hard to come by, but worth the search.

I LOVE these flats. Love them.

Tangerine and steel grey are such a cute color combo for spring/ summer. Give me stripes and a big bow, and I'm sold.

Again, stripes and a bow. Need I say more?

Lovely additions to my spring wardrobe, if I do say so myself.
